Stockholm - Day 2
On Sunday we got up nice an early and went back to Galma Stan to explore the Palace a bit more. We went into the Grand Hotel where I got confused for a Greek pop star and had a gaggle of teenage girls squealing at me. It was possibly the best 2 seconds of my life until they realized I was just a commoner and they all sighed with disappointment..
By the time we got to the Palace the people had woken up and flocked to the place - turns out it was the Kings 60th birthday that day and there were parades galore. To celebrate his b'day the military fired a few cannons before some fighter planes flew over head. Wes and I thought we were in the middle of a terrorist attack before we realized it was a celebratory fire of cannons and not a bomb going off!
After checking out the soldiers and having a giggle as they often dropped their weapons we jumped on a ferry and headed over to one of the islands. I got a call from Mum and Dad while we were on the ferry which as you can see made my day!!!
The island was lovely and included a random aquarium and theme park! That night we went out for a divine dinner of traditional salmon gravalax (Jess this place is your Mecca), game meatballs and roe deer steak. We thought we were having dinner in this really authentic Swedish restaurant but realilsed after dinner it was called The Glenfidich Cellar... there was even a 1000 pound shot of scotch on offer.. maybe next time.
