Club 606

Our flatmate Blair is heading back to New Zealand this weekend and as a farewell Blair and Gregoria invited Marg and I out to a local jazz club called Club 606.

It's not far from our house and if you were to walk past you wouldn't know it was there as it's really just a brick arch with "606" in brass numbers above.

We buzzed a buzzer on the metal grate and a head appeared at the bottom of the stairs asking if we had booked. By this stage Marg and I thought Blair may have bought us to an S&M bar rather than a Jazz club but after Blair gave his details we were buzzed in... too late now.

The club had a great atmosphere, not too smoky which is a rarity in London, and we had top seats with an unobstructed view of the band.

The set we saw was a young vocalist named Symeon Cosburn who was amazing, he put on a great show with original songs and classics, his band were all tight and the pianist was special. (of interest to no one but me is the fact that his debut album features a tasteful black and white portrait... what a bloody surprise for a jazz album! Mikey, you could make a fortune doing every bloody jazz album that comes out for the next year and then retire)

We had a lovely meal and a great bottle of Spanish red. The set finished about 11ish so we headed out into the suddenly rainy night for a quick cab ride home.
