Of Sport

It was a sad, sad day in cricket yesterday. The final day of the final match of the Ashes and... Richie Benaud has retired from commentating (overseas anyway). In typical Richie fashion "Thank you for having me,'' he said. "It's been absolutely marvelous. I've loved every moment of it."

It has always been my theory that Benaud died sometime in the 1970's and has been reanimated either by dark Kerry Packer magic or by strings Weekend at Burnie's style. We'll miss him while we're over here for sure.

As for the bloody game, I figure that England deserved the win, they did play well and it has been 18 years since they have even held the Ashes. So, well Done Poms but don't expect as easy a run next time.

Why did they have to pick when I was over here to actually find form? And The Rugby what's up with that?

The Only Shining hope is my beloved Eels (yes Irene, I'm a Leagueie, sorry). They have won the Minor premiership and look pretty good for the Grand final but it's early days yet. Fingers crossed.

So ends the first (and probably last) sports report from the blog.
