Day 2 was a marathon.
It started with us getting up and heading next door to the Cairo Museum. Home to over 250,000 ancient Egyptian artifacts with many not on display and many more not able to fit inside.
The Museum was fantastic (no photos allowed inside sadly) we saw king Tut-Ankh-Amun's treasures including his famous burial mask and gold coffins. But after Way too short a time (2.5 hours) we headed, via the bustling roads, to our next stop ...
...The Citadel of Salah al-Din (Muslim leader who fought off the Crusaders and reclaimed Jerusalem - think the movie 'Kingdom of Heaven'). It was immense and we got our first taste of the kind of attention we'd be getting when walking around with 2 beautiful blond Aussies like Marg and Jodie. A lot!
After the citadel we moved to the Coptic Christian area of Cairo to see the Hanging church. The church is called Hanging as it is built above the site of the ancient towers of Babylon.
It had been a big day already so we went back to the hotel for a shower before getting in a bus and heading over the river to Giza to see the Pyramid Sound and Light Show. This was our first glimpse of the Pyramids and was truly breathtaking.
We sat in the front row and drank a few beers while the show played out in front us.
The pyramids were beautiful and we couldn't wait to get back to see them but after such a big day we were more than ready for bed.
